Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)

when trying to rate it I find difficulty between how much fun I had and how much of a movie it is because as a movie it's not super great, the story falls short in a few places but as enjoyment as an experience as for how many times I laughed and had a great time this was great.
I don't know maybe I am wrong here but this kind of fell a bit short of the first and second movies, I wish we spent more time with Vanessa and Wade as we did in the first movie, we could have linked back to Wolverine maybe have deadpool fail in a similar but different way to Wade but that isn't great criticism, they say great film criticism is when you try and fix what they have not what you wanted but that is when superhero movies work the best for me, when they are grounded in a reality when we see the human under the mask and for most of this film we don't see that, not saying it's not there but it's just that we don't see that for most of the film Deadpool and Wolverine are at odd's there two strangers who don't know each other so why would they talk to each other? there is a false promise that starts the formation of a bond but like every other buddy cop adventure that falls away all to quick and we resort back to hating each other, that is not to say that this isn't worth watching it for sure it's good it's funny there are some great things to like about it.
I liked it and like I could write better so who am I but just some pretentious film guy.
First Impression Notes
—————————————
- I didn’t like the previous two films cinematography two had some good cinematography but overall this film improves that massively. The interesting way they film the car fight for example or the oner at the end of the film or the bye bye bye opening credits or even some of the dialogue is pretty interestingly filmed, I loved the vibrant colors the second film had more muted color palette which was cool but this one had some beautiful vibrant colors to look at socially considering this is shot in a madman Esq world.
- the music in this was pretty cool I love how the Deadpool films typically don’t go for the norm when they get license music and that stayed true here in the original cut for DP2 they did some pretty basic music choices but in the super duper cut they had that fighting dirty song instead of the rap pop song which I loved so I’m glad thet did that hear with fight scenes taking place over Madonna songs and a million dreams and also bye bye bye.
- the story is where this one falters for me it has a narrative and presents some good ideas and concepts that are pretty cool but it ultimately falls a bit short for me, there is still some great writing here though specifically when the jokes kick into gear it’s just those more serious toned scenes could have used some punch ups there is this comic panel floating around on Twitter that I saw they had him serious depressed and then he throws on the mask and he is like hey oh and it’s all happy go luck and there were hints of that sprinkled all over this story it just wasn’t there you know? however this was filmed and finished during the writer's strike so maybe in a different universe this would have gotten some punch ups, I love some good 4th wall humor breakage and I also love when a character cringe explains a joke that everyone got but he is explaining it to them because they didn’t get it and that is in here so that made me laugh pretty hard.
- the acting is pretty great though, they are all doing a great job I specifically like Emma Corin she was doing a pretty super job I wish we spent just a tad more time with her character so that we could get to know her a bit better.
- there are some cons here the characters need more development, and the scene where Logan and Laura talk should have meant more to the film it's called Deadpool and Wolverine but we don't spend as much time getting to know this version of Wolverine sure he has scenes but we don't get to know him, we know his fears and what he wants but we don't know what he needs same with Deadpool we haven't seen him in a while and a bunch has changed about his life as shown by the difference right from the start we know what he wants, we know he fears losing his friends but we don't know what he needs.
- there is a great film here: a story about two people who failed and fucked up, who are just trying to make life better to take away the pain that both of them feel. these are pretty profound thoughts most of these can't be solved in one movie let alone two but to bring them closure is difficult they need to as Deadpool said to save one another but we don't get that from both of them we see them come together as a team but we don't see them save one another, we hear about it essentially we see them come together as a pretty bad ass team though
